Dear List,
Translating this article by VDN raised an interesting question: where did
his (and consequently his son's) anti-antisemitism come from?
Was this a tradition in the family? Was it unique in their class? Did
Russian anti-antisemitism exist outside the Nabokov family?
As a Jew and a fan of Nabokov I wannano. Does anybody?

p.s. I would like to call attention to the poignant last sentence of the
article:
At the same time those Jews who remain true Russian patriots must contribute
what they can to the general fight for the restoration of Russia, and
against the orgy of bolshevism; to take up the unremitting work and
self-denial that it will cost, and finally, never to lose heart even though
we can not be sure that what we begin now will ever end in victory.
