Subject
Transparent Things & Schiller's Ode to the Joy
Date
Body
Cherubim being mentioned by R. in his last letter to his Publisher (TT, 21), these lines from Schiller's Ode an die Freude seem relevent:

Wollust ward dem Wurm gegeben,
Und der Cherub steht vor Gott.

Voluptuousness was given to the worm,
and the cherub stands before God.

Also,Wir betreten feuertrunken,
Himmlische, dein Heiligtum. ,
We enter, fire-imbibed,
Heavenly, thy sanctuary.

Of course, Mrs Richard F. Schiller is Lolita's married name.
